2017 Acura MDX: Is Hybrid The Solution?
Things are not looking so good for Honda’s luxury arm, Acura. The carmaker is simply struggling to make a living here in the US despite having produced some nice luxury vehicles. Even after launching the new-generation MDX, the SUV didn’t manage to capture a large slice of the market.
So, what is the next step for Acura? According to their spokesperson, the next move is to offer a brand new MDX that runs on a hybrid powertrain. The product is already completed and it is about to make its official sales debut.
The MDX Hybrid is confirmed to run on a 3L V6 engine with three electric motors. This pushes out a total of 321hp and 289ft-lbs of torque through a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox. The power is sent to the SH-AWD system which can also offer plenty of driving fun with the MDX.
With such an offering, the price tag for the MDX Hybrid that starts at $51,960 is certainly below market average and it can definitely aid Acura in their hunt for a sales comeback. Will it work out well though?
