2017 BMW 330i vs Mercedes-Benz C300: For Different Tastes

In the past couple of years or so, Mercedes-Benz has been at the top of everything as they accumulated more sales than rival luxury carmakers. The biggest success is the all-new C-Class, particularly with the C300. But now that BMW has updated the 330i, is the C300 still the champ in the segment?

The 330i runs on a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine just like the C300 but the way it drives is more rugged or aggressive when compared to its rival. The 330i punches hard and this can be a good thing if you are prefers a very sporty feel as opposed to luxury. With the mill, the 330i can sprint from 0-60mph in 6.9 seconds.

Inside the cabin, the 330i can be a bit disappointing as the seats look plain and the space is pretty limited. Exterior noise is also not well insulated and this raises some question marks on BMW’s luxury program.

Moving on to the C300, the car’s 2L mill is still the better performer as it can leap to 60mph 0.1 seconds quicker than the 330i. The C300 is also very smooth at it as the occupants don’t feel too pressured by the forces at play when flooring the gas pedal.

This is where the C300 excels as it manages to find the perfect balance in performance and luxury. The sporty feel may be second best to the 330i but the overall experience is something you can appreciate and not get tired of. The cabin is comfier than the 330i and it is also quieter.

With that being said, we have to side with the C300 in this contest. However, this is down to our preferences. As mentioned above, if you prefer a sportier feel, the 330i will make the perfect compact luxury car for you.
