2017 Chevrolet Cruze vs Honda Civic: There’s No Hope Left
The compact car scene got more exciting last year when Honda launched the all-new Civic and this was closely followed by the arrival of the new generation Chevrolet Cruze. But then again, only one car managed to leap into success and that is the Civic.
The Cruze offered very little competition and this is due to its underwhelming specs. The Cruze, despite being offered with a hatchback body style, relies on a 1.4L turbocharged engine that can develop 153hp and 177ft-lbs of torque. This is about 20hp behind the Civic thus making the car from Honda more attractive.
Even on the fuel economy front, the Cruze is no match for the Civic. The latter can return up to 42mpg whereas the former can only manage 37mpg at best.
The killing blow for the Cruze is with the quality issues that has plagued the vehicle. A growing number of Cruze owners are complaining on engine faults with the vehicle and there are also problems with the electronics. The Civic is not exactly perfect but most known issues are only with the interior accessories.
It goes to say that Chevrolet has certainly bottled their chances with the latest generation Cruze. If they had been more aggressive, the Cruze could have do a lot better than the Civic, especially on the sales front.
