2017 Kia Niro vs Toyota Prius: The Winner Is Obvious

By  |

Kia has finally played their pure hybrid card after launching the all-new Niro but how does the car measure up to segment leaders like the Toyota Prius?

Well, if we are to decide, we would side with the Prius rather than the Niro. This is easily because of the fact that the Prius is a proven car whereas the Niro is a fresh blood in the world of hybrids. Despite being newer, the Niro is second best in terms of MPG, which is basically where it all matters most.

The Niro relies on a 1.6L engine that works together with an electric motor thus allowing the car to offer 139hp and return 50mpg fuel economy. This is about 3mpg behind the Toyota Prius thus making the Niro the second best choice for a hybrid car.

The only advantage with the Niro Hybrid is that the vehicle is cheaper to own. Prices for the Niro start at $23,785 and this is about $1,700 cheaper than the Toyota Prius Hybrid. Last but not least, the Niro looks like a decent car, unlike the Toyota Prius. Which would you choose?

I dislike the Prius styling, the designer has spent too much time watching star wars movies. I also find the Prius V which is their station wagon model dashboard very irritating placing the gauges in the center of the dashboard and not in front of the driver.
