It is official. BMW has released the details on the next-gen M5 and it the numbers on the car are simply exciting to look at.

Powered by a new twin-turbo V8, the new M5 can develop a whopping 600hp and 533ft-lbs of torque. We have been waiting a long time for a real response from BMW against the 63s from Mercedes-AMG and the new M5 offers just that.

The real excitement is with the performance figures. The M5 is said to have the ability to hit 60mph from stop in an amazing time of 2.8 seconds. Furthermore, the car can complete a quarter-mile in just 10.9 seconds.

Prior to the release of this information, many predicted the M5 to outdo the Dodge Challenger Demon on the quarter-mile and we can confirm now that it is not the case at all.

The Challenger Demon is still the fastest factory car on the quarter and Dodge can rest easy for it. But of course, the Demon is only good on the drag and it has yet to proof itself around the track – a domain where the M5 is expected to dominate.
