2018 Ford Explorer RS Targeting Maserati Levante & Porsche Cayenne

New rumours have surfaced about Ford’s future performance-focussed products and among them will apparently be based on the Ford Explorer. The vehicle is tentatively-known as the Explorer RS and it will be able to drive like a sports car while having the structure of an SUV.

In detail, the Explorer RS will be powered by a 3.8L twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost engine that can develop about 550hp and 524ft-lbs of torque. The Explorer RS will be driven on the AWD system and it will be able to sprint from 0-60mph in 3.7 seconds. With such a setup, we don’t see why the Explorer RS can’t compete with the Maserati Levante and Porsche Cayenne.

Of course, the above is based on rumours and it should be taken with a grain of salt. Ford has yet to update us on their next major performance project and it could end up as a completely different vehicle.
