2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500: Looting Some Technology From Nissan GT-R?
The recent Hot Lap series from Motor Trend saw the latest generation Ford Mustang GT350 R outpacing the once great Nissan GT-R. It goes to say that things are certainly better with the current GT350R, especially on the handling side of things.
The trend is expected to continue with the upcoming Shelby GT500, which is bound to arrive somewhere in 2017. The GT500 promises more power, aggression and even greater handling. Today, new rumours have surfaced and they are claiming that the next-gen GT500 will have a similar style to the Nissan GT-R.
The word is that the front steering spindles on the GT500 will have splines designed for CV shafts. Hence, the vehicle will be a front engine with a rear transaxle and a driveshaft that goes to the front.
Such a setup is what made the Nissan GT-R popular as it enhances the performance of the car while also improving on the vehicle’s handling by a huge margin. If the rumours are right, we can’t imagine how the next Shelby GT500 will perform on the Hot Lap. It will definitely expose the GT-R for being an outdated supercar.
