2018 Honda Accord: When Type R Gone Soft!

By  |

The next-gen Honda Accord is one of the most anticipated cars right now and it is easy to understand why. Besides being a new generation model, the upcoming Accord will arrive with new technologies and greater performance.

By now, most of you should be aware that next Accord will do away with naturally-aspirated engines. The last naturally-aspirated mill is a V6 mill and it will be replaced by a Civic Type R-sourced 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine.

But before you jump in joy, the Type R mill will not be offering 305hp with the next Accord. The engine has been detuned for economical purposes. Honda revealed that the high-powered motor can offer the smoothest and most engaging driving experience when tuned down for a daily driver like the Accord.

While this does make sense, it is hard to accept the 2L turbo-4 having fewer horsepower than the V6 it replaces. This will go down to the car’s fuel economy. An insignificant fuel economy improvement will only defeat the purpose of having a Civic Type R mill embedded on the Accord. Wouldn’t you agree?
