2018 Hyundai Sonata Facelift Narrows It Against Toyota Camry

By  |

The midsized sedan segment has long been dominated by the Toyota Camry but this may change in the near future to come. As good as the all new generation Camry is, we are surprised to see Hyundai being able to keep it close with the latest Sonata Facelift.

The latter was launched earlier this year and it came out with better scores than the Camry on several fronts. For starters, the Sonata boasts a more upmarket interior and it is also designed to offer greater amount of space to the commuters. It’s safe to say that the Sonata is more comforting than the Camry inside the cabin.

The only good thing about the Camry is the engine that has the best balance in power and fuel economy. The Sonata Facelift is still a level behind on this front as the best it can offer is a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that can develop 245hp and return 37mpg.

Hyundai will need to work hard on improving the numbers for the next-gen Sonata as they need to match the Camry’s 301hp and 50mpg ratings. If Hyundai can pull it off, then we don’t see why the Sonata can’t end the Camry’s dominance in the midsized segment.
