2018 Jeep Wrangler: Unpopular Diesels May Serve As A Life-Line

By  |

Come next year, Jeep is expected to begin selling the next-gen Wrangler. The future 4×4 will arrive with many new things to offer and among them is a diesel powertrain option.

Fiat-Chrysler has mentioned before that they want the Wrangler to run on diesels and they have received the necessary approval to make it happen. While diesels may not be popular here in the US, the option to have it with a Wrangler can serve as a life-line for Jeep.

Things are financially messed up in Fiat-Chrysler camp as the company recorded a sharp decline this year and it may see Jeep getting sold to Great Wall from China. If that is to be the case, Jeep will have a new problem and it is with the CAFÉ regulations.

The diesel mills for the Wrangler may serve as a cushion on meeting CAFÉ requirements and it will at least give Jeep time to improve on their emissions. Even if Great Wall is unable to buy Jeep, the diesel mills can still be useful to FCA in meeting CAFÉ requirements.
