2018 Kia Stinger GT vs Audi S5 Sportback: Which Is Fastest?

Those that have been following the newly-launched Stinger GT closely must have heard of Kia’s claims which suggest that the car is as good as the premium sports sedan from Germany.

Today, we can find out for sure thanks to an instrumented test have been made on the Stinger GT and we can say that the results are pretty amazing. To offer more clarity on this, we will be comparing the Stinger GT with the latest Audi S5 Sportback.

On the surface of things, the Kia Stinger GT runs on a 3.3L twin-turbo V6 engine that can develop 365hp. The Audi S5 Sportback, on the other hand, relies on a 349hp 3L turbocharged V6 engine.

Based on C&D’s reports, the Kia Stinger GT can hit 0-60mph, 0-100mph and 0-140mph in 4.4s, 10.6s and 22.4s respectively. This Audi S5 is better at the sprint to 60mph but slower on the run-up to 140mph. The S5 Sportback is also known to complete a quarter-mile challenge in just 12.9 seconds. This is equal to that of the Stinger GT.

The differences are very minimal across the two cars and this is why we can commend Kia for nailing it with the Stinger GT. But then again, when it comes to track performance and luxury, there is still a gap separating the Stinger GT from the German greats.

Handling can be tough on the Stinger GT as the rear dampers offered little help in keeping the rear portion in-check at sharp bends. Also, the electronical steering is far from the level of precision that is offered with the Audi S5 Sportback.

On the bright side of things, the Stinger GT is about half the price of the S5 Sportback and this can be viewed as a winning point for Kia to bring home. After all, the Stinger GT’s is Kia’s first ever road-legal sports car and the future looks bright on them.
