2018 Subaru WRX STI Type-RA Is Barely Drivable

The all-new Subaru WRX STI Type-RA is not exactly our pick for the best affordable sports car and this is down to a number of reasons.

For starters, the WRX STI Type-RA is still relying on a ‘prehistoric’ mill and it is one that is identical to the engine on the standard WRX STI. The powertrain on the Type-RA, however, has been refined to develop 310hp, 5hp more than the vehicle it is based on.

But like every other performance-tuned Subaru, the WRX STI Type-RA is not built to chase attractive numbers. It is made to impress on the track and this is something that is true if driven by a really skilled driver.

When driven by an average joe who does tracking on an occasional basis, the WRX STI Type-RA won’t be ‘user-friendly’ at all. This is proven today when an enthusiast got his hands on the WRX STI Type-RA and he struggled at almost every curve approach on the track with the car.

The lad quoted that the WRX STI Type-RA is barely drivable but it is his mistake for not knowing that the WRX has always offered massive understeer. If you are interested in seeing the WRX STI Type-RA in action, you can check out the clip embedded below.
