Volkswagen, like other automakers looking to stay competitive in the US, understands that for this market, bigger is indeed better. Its name may have originally been etched in consumer’s minds by the diminutive Beetle, but changing times forces adaptation for survival.
That’s why the Volkswagen Atlas has been launched, and why it has been marketed as the solution for the size needs of the stereotypical suburban family.
The seven-seater’s main rivals may be the Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot, but its emphasis on accommodating large families also helps it take a jab at minivans.
Yes, that includes the likes the Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna, and of course the all-new Chrysler Pacifica. While FCA went for the suburban family appeal by enlisting the services of comedian Jim Gaffigan to play the role of ‘cool dad’ in a suite of commercials, Volkswagen has employed its own brand of humor.
