2018 Volkswagen Golf: New Turbo Outperforms Honda Civic

The tenth generation Honda Civic is one of the most popular vehicles in the market today and this is mostly because of the new 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine it runs on. The mill can churn out 174hp and it can also return a whopping 42mpg. This makes the Civic really attractive and the best in its class.

Today however, the Civic’s position is being challenge by the Volkswagen Golf. Volkswagen launched a brand new engine for the Golf earlier today and it is near similar in characteristics with the one on the Civic.

The new mill is a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder TSI unit that is tailored for the best fuel economy around. The figures prove that the engine from Volkswagen is a lot better when it comes to fuel efficiency as it is able to return 47mpg at best.

The only unfortunate thing here is the pony count with the engine from Volkswagen. Despite having a turbocharger, the motor can only churn out 147hp and 184ft-lbs of torque. The torque count is definitely better than the Civic but the pony count is a little behind the Japanese car.

But then again, Volkswagen has got this habit of underestimating the horsepower figures of their engines. With that in mind, we can assume that the 1.5L-powered Golf is considerably better than the Civic.
