2019 Chevrolet Corvette vs Porsche 911: New Mid-Engine Sports Car Era?

By  |

There is a possibility of the next-gen Porsche 911 arriving as a mid-engine sports car, which is fantastic news to say the least. What’s even better is the fact that it could be going up against the mid-engine Corvette C8.

While official details regarding the Corvette C8 are scarce, there have been many spy shots of the vehicle and speculations about its potential output. It seems that a more powerful version of the Z06’s V8 would be used which should be good for about 750hp.

The most recent spotting of the mid-engine darling is of it being tested at Laguna Seca along with the Corvette Z06 and Camaro ZL1 1LE and according to the spy photographer/videographer, the C8 is a class above its cousins.

Unlike the Corvette C8, the mid-engine 911 hasn’t yet been confirmed, so it’s best to temper expectations until its prototype actually shows up in the wild. For now, there is word that it could adopt a 4.0L flat-six mill that can dish out 503hp.

Porsche hinted at this possibility via the RSR Concept that showed up earlier this year, and there’s reason to believe that it would be made into a production model in 2018.

Looking at their numbers, it appears that Corvette has the upper hand in this potential rivalry. But we should know by now not to predict a winner based on output alone. The best way would be to pit them against one another on the track, though that still looks to be a long way off at this point.
