2019 Chevrolet Silverado: Challenging The Meaning Of Downsizing!

By  |

We are living in a world where global warming has turned into a serious threat and oil prices became an unpredictable, unstable value. As such, it is completely understandable why automotive governing bodies and regulators have made it mandatory for carmakers to meet new emission laws.

The new emission guidelines get tighter with every passing year and it has forced the large majority of the automotive market into downsizing. This is solely because of the fact that a smaller capacity engine with fewer cylinders will do better on the economical end of things.

GM is among those that have complied with the downsizing order but they are not exactly happy with equipping their iconic vehicles with a small engine. This explains why GM shook the world last week when it decided on offering the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado with a brand new 2.7L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. Yes, you read that right. The mill is a 4-pot turbocharged unit with a massive size of 2.7L.

With such a setup, we can expect the 2.7L engine to offer a strain-free smooth commuting on the Silverado although we are not too sure on whether this is wise for fuel economy. If no improvements are made on the economical end, it’s perhaps right to say that GM is provoking the downsize meaning.
