2019 Ford Ranger Raptor: Can Chevy Colorado ZR2 Breathe Easy?

By  |

The answer to the question above is probably a yes and this is because of Ford’s plans for the Ranger Raptor. While not based on official remarks made by Ford, the carmaker has been linked to equip the Ranger Raptor with a powertrain that is completely unexpected.

The word is that the Ranger Raptor won’t be utilizing the mill that made the F-150 Raptor a success as Ford is avoiding competition involving their two prime pickup trucks. In a bid to prevent this from happening, insiders are claiming that the Ranger Raptor will be settling for a high-powered diesel engine.

It is a quite strange decision because diesels are not popular here in the US and we don’t see how it can have the capabilities to compete closely with the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 aside from offering better mileage. So if this is truly going to be the outcome, the Colorado can stop being afraid of the Ranger Raptor.

All will be confirmed when Ford launches the next-gen Ranger and that will happen in Q1 next year. The Ranger Raptor, on the other hand, is expected to debut at a slightly later date.
