2019 Hyundai Kona EV: Can It Displace Tesla Model 3, Chevy Bolt?

By  |

The Hyundai Kona EV is nearing its sales debut and market watchers have been tipping the vehicle to sell better than the Chevrolet Bolt and Tesla Model 3.

This is considered as a huge expectation, especially when both the Bolt and the Model 3 have got the best EV offerings around for their respective price tag. But then again, it is not impossible for Hyundai to pull it off because the Kona EV has got a big advantage over the current hot-sellers.

The advantage we are referring to is with the Kona’s SUV structure. SUVs have been selling at a rapid pace in the past decade or so and whereas compact cars and sedans have slowed down massively.

With more consumers leaning towards SUVs, the Kona EV will have a greater reach at the masses and it can outsell the Model 3 as well as the Bolt by being priced cheaper. Hyundai must’ve been aware of this potential hence their decision to launch the Kona EV.

Writer neglected to mention (didn’t know?) that the Kona will have its full $7500 tax credit intact, whereas the Bolt and the Model 3 will shortly lose theirs. A $7500 price advantage gives the Kona a gigantic edge.

Range. It’s about the range. Kona doesn’t pass the mythical 200 mile mark.
