2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata: A Power Bump Toyota 86 Can Only Dream Of!

The Mazda MX-5 Miata has survived the test of time to become one of the most sought after affordable sports cars around and this is despite of the fact that the car lacks having a tremendous power figure like the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ.

Well, despite that fact, the MX-5 Miata was still able to match the track performance of the 86 on Car&Driver’s Lightning Lap Challenge last year. Things are about to get better for the MX-5 Miata as the car is now closely linked to getting a power bump.

An internal document from Mazda has leaked onto the internet and it reveals that the 2L 4-cylinder unit will have an increased REV capacity. With such refinements, the 2019 MX-5 Miata will have an output of 181hp – 24hp more than the current model.

The numbers improvement will certainly have a positive impact on the MX-5’s overall performance and while it may be short of what the 86 has to offer, the refinements seem enough to push the MX-5 ahead of its rival.
