2019 Toyota Supra: A Lexus-Inside Performance Hybrid?

By  |

Every passing day brings us closer to the release of the next-gen Toyota Supra and we can’t wait to check out what the vehicle has to offer. Back in the days, the Supra was widely regarded as a supercar killer. This very fact is the reason why the next Supra is one of the most anticipated cars around.

Spy shots have shown the next-gen Supra in action on public roads and they all indicate one thing. It is that the Supra will be relying on a performance hybrid powertrain. For obvious reasons, it is unlikely for the sports car to utilize the hybrid system on the sluggish Prius. Instead, we feel that the hybrid setup will be akin to that on the all-new Lexus LC500h.

Lexus is the luxury arm of Toyota and the LC500h is tuned for a highly pleasurable performance. The combination of a 3.5L V6 engine and an electric motor can allow the car to develop 400hp and this is a nice figure for the Supra to have. Heck, Toyota may just do one better by adding another electric motor which can boost power to 500 horses.

While not official yet, we believe that the above is the ideal outcome for the next-gen Supra. After all, it would be a big financial risk to invest a lot on developing a brand new performance hybrid system for the Supra. What do you think?
