Audi R8 RWS: Breaking Audi’s RWD Virginity In Full Style!

By  |

The Audi R8 is one of the most popular sports cars in the world and you don’t have to be an enthusiast if you want to identify the vehicle. It is one of those cars that you can recognize instantaneously and I dare say that my grandma can spot an R8 from many miles away.

But despite the popularity of the R8, not many are aware that there is a different kind of R8 that was launched by Audi very recently ago and it is one that relies on rear-wheel. Such an idea to have an R8 riding on RWD has been teased before but they often got trashed due to Audi’s great love for AWD.

Well, at the start of this year, everything changed as the R8 welcomed a new family member, the RWS. Like the original R8, the RWS variant relies on a V10 engine that can pump out 540hp an 398ft-lbs of torque. Everything is pretty much a clone of the standard R8 and the only difference is drivetrain.

The RWS has got a pure RWD setup, making it the first from Audi since the brand exited Auto Union back in the 1960s. The best part is that the R8 RWS is purely impressive on the performance end of things.

I have yet to get a chance with the car but according to an exclusive drive report with the vehicle, the R8 RWS is constantly demanding more effort from the driver and the feeling of oversteer is really welcoming.

The feedback are purely positive for the Audi R8 RWS and while the car does not have what it takes to compete with vehicles of similar stature and value, I will still say that Audi has broken their RWD virginity in full-style.
