Audi RS4 vs Mercedes-AMG GLC 63: Wagon Takes The Win!

By  |

The past decade has witnessed a surge in SUV adoption and this has led market watchers to predict a complete SUV takeover in the near future. This is something which many enthusiasts are not pleased with as they view SUVs as wagons on stilts. Hence the question, are SUVs truly better?

We are able to get a better idea on this today when a Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 was sent to Sachsenring for a lap challenge and the mighty performance luxury SUV completed the course with a commendable time of 1:37.89. On the other hand, this was to be expected as the GLC 63 boasts 469hp from a twin-turbo V8.

The unfortunate bit here is that the GLC 63 is not as fast as a wagon that has fewer pony count. We are referring to the Audi RS4 Avant which has completed the same challenge with a much better time of 1:37.71.

It may not sound like much but you must consider that the Audi RS4 Avant is considerably cheaper, has got a similar level of luxuries and is packed with 444hp produced by a smaller 3L twin-turbo V6 engine.

The wagon basically gets the job done better and it is owed to better handling than an SUV. But even with the RS4 Avant enjoying the bragging rights, it won’t be enough to spoil the SUV uprising.
