Classics Revived! – 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 vs Ford GT
For the past year or so, we have been occasionally fed with spy shots of the upcoming Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. The classic powerhouse is currently in development and it looks more than ready to debut next year.
However, it won’t be a quiet launch for the Corvette ZR1 as Ford too is lining up a brand new ultimate power car called the GT. So, which of the two is potentially better?
If our answer matters, then we would say the Ford GT, hands down until proven otherwise. The GT is a proven performer and it primarily competes with other industry greats like the cars from Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini.
The 2018 GT is bound to get updated with more power to offer thanks to an upgraded 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine. While the official figures are not out yet, the mid-engine car is tipped to offer 600hp. The ride height has also been lowered to improve aerodynamics and handling thus making the GT more insane than ever.
We cannot say the same for the Corvette ZR1 as the vehicle looks less exciting on every front. The spy shots are heavily suggesting that the Corvette ZR1 will exaggerate on the design front as it will come out equipped with an oversized wing in the back, red brake calipers, oversized tyres, oversized vents and red mirror caps.
The powertrain on the ZR1 is unknown at the moment but judging by the looks of it, the car is likely to adopt a 2.3L supercharged due to the larger hood vents. It will be just like in the old days where the ZR1 is just made to look sporty and equipped with excessive power which never really helps performance.
We said it before and we say it again. The Ford GT looks more mature and interesting as opposed to the Corvette ZR1’s boyish prospect. We would side with the GT in this contest but what about you?
