Fiat 124 Abarth Is A B-Grade Mazda MX-5, Not The Other Way Around

One of the highlights of 2017 in the automotive industry is Car&Driver’s Lightning Lap challenge. The event pitted a number of cars on the track and see what sort of timings they can achieve on the circuit.

The Lightning Lap challenge brought out a number of surprises, most notably the Fiat 124 Spider. The latter came to the track and achieved a timing that is marginally better than the car it is based on – the Mazda MX-5.

In detail, the 124 Spider completed the track with a timing that is 4 seconds faster than the MX-5 Club and also the Subaru BRZ. This is really impressive for the roadster and we immediately called the 124 as the unsung hero in the automotive industry for 2017.

But then again, not everyone will agree that the Fiat 124 Spider is better than the Mazda MX-5, even when the car is in its Abarth form. Popular reviewer Doug DeMuro had just provided a different angle that explains why the 124 Abarth is behind the MX-5 and you can check it out below.
