Fiat 124 Spider: Mazda Called, They Want Their Glory Back!

By  |

The latest generation Fiat 124 Spider was launched last year and it is a car that shares a lot of parts with the Mazda MX-5 Miata. But make no mistake about it. The 124 Spider is not a rebadged Miata as it features a different powertrain setup – one that is from Fiat.

Such a small change on the 124 Spider has made a world of difference on the performance front as the car has achieved better lap times than the car it is based on – the MX-5 Miata. All is not lost for the sports car from Mazda because the next-gen model will look to reclaim its throne for being the best affordable roadster around.

Mazda revealed earlier today that they are closing in towards the release of the next-gen MX-5 and the upcoming car will feature more power with a more refined overall performance. Instead of 155hp, the car will have 181hp with the promise of higher redline.

This translates to the MX-5 having 21hp more than the 124 Spider thus giving it a better prospect of achieving faster speed both on the straight line and the track. More details will be out once the next-gen MX-5 gets unveiled later this year.
