Fiat 124 Spyder vs Mazda MX-5 Club: Italian Wins

By  |

One may argue that Italian cars were always in the top league with regards to performance and this is due to their ability to get more up per cc than other manufacturers. If this is true, then it is perhaps right to say that the Fiat 124 Spyder has shown the Mazda MX-5 Miata what the vehicle has been missing.

Just so you know, the 124 Spyder is built largely based on the MX-5 Miata and the difference between the two is minimal. The biggest difference is with the engine whereby the 124 Spyder relies on a turbocharged mill whereas the MX-5 is equipped with a naturally aspirated engine.

On papers, the MX-5 Club is faster and more powerful than the 124 Spyder. But when both cars step into the track at Car & Driver’s Lightning Lap challenge, the Fiat 124 Spyder defied all odds to record a significant win over the MX-5 Club.

In numbers, the 124 Spyder finished the lap challenge 4 seconds faster than the MX-5 Club. You can check out the 124 Spyder’s lap attempt below.
