Hyundai IONIQ Brings New Threat To Chevrolet Volt, Toyota Prius!

What is there not to like about the Hyundai IONIQ? The green car from Hyundai is probably the best-looking hybrid/EV in the world as it has a car-like design instead of forcing an unpleasant alien-style concept.

If that is not bad enough, the IONIQ has also proved itself to be a vehicle of great value. The IONIQ is priced lower than the competition and it is rated to be as good as rival vehicles in terms of fuel economy.

With such an offering, it greatly explains why the IONIQ is moving in big numbers on the sales front. But for Hyundai, things are still not up to par for their green champion because the IONIQ is not bringing enough threat to its more established rivals like the Chevrolet Volt and the Toyota Prius.

The reason for this is actually because of that single flaw with the IONIQ – its size. As good as the IONIQ is, the vehicle is significantly smaller than the Volt and the Prius and this is hurting the IONIQ’s sales potential.

Hyundai has realized this point and they have decided to fix the problem for good. While it may be too late to enlarge the IONIQ as a whole, Hyundai has decided to produce the long-wheelbase version of the IONIQ known as the IONIQ LWB.

The extra inches added to the length of the vehicle will greatly boost cabin comfort through freeing up more space. We can expect Hyundai to launch the IONIQ LWB later this year and it will be interesting to see how the vehicle fair against the Chevy Volt and Toyota Prius.
