Is Hyundai i30 N Forcing Hybrid Into Kia Ceed GT?

By  |

It has already been confirmed by Kia that their next major vehicle is the Ceed and the hatchback will arrive together with a pure performance GT trim. After being able to impress the masses with the Stinger GT, the expectations are high towards the Ceed GT.

Speculations are rife in claiming that the Ceed GT will arrive with a 2L turbocharged engine and it will have an output of about 300hp. But then again, this potential outcome is now being challenged by new information on the Ceed GT.

It was revealed earlier today that the team developing the Ceed GT are the same ones that have developed the i30 N. Also, like the sports hatch from Hyundai, developments are taking place at Nurburgring.

There will certainly be a lot of similarities between the i30 N and the Ceed GT and this may have a negative effect on the sales front. As a result, a British publication that claims to have spoken to a member of the development team revealed that the Ceed GT will avoid the 2L turbocharged engine in favour of a sports hybrid setup.

This means that the Ceed GT will run on a hybrid powertrain with an estimated output of 250hp. It’s a pretty decent number and all that is left is for Kia to confirm on this claim.
