Nissan Leaf vs Hyundai IONIQ: Big Promise Brings Bigger Challenge
Both Nissan and Hyundai have confirmed that they want to produce an EV car that is capable of offering more than 200 miles of driving range and the vehicles is expected to arrive in 2018.
For Nissan, they are hoping to achieve their goal through developing the next-gen Leaf. As for Hyundai, the 200 miles target will come in the form of an upgrade for the all-new IONIQ.
The latter arrived in full style with 128 miles of driving range to offer but such range is no longer exciting as the newer Chevrolet Bolt is able to offer 238 miles of driving range. Hyundai revealed that they are almost done with the development of a long-range EV powertrain and it should be ready for the IONIQ by 2018.
As for Nissan, it is about time for them to realize that the Leaf is desperate for a next-gen model. It will be interesting to see what the future Leaf will be able to offer as it may end up as the production version of the IDS concept.
With Hyundai and Nissan both showing more commitment to the EV market, it will be interesting to see which of the two will have more to offer when released.
