Yes, you read the title right. It was discovered earlier today that a scrap-bound BMW 5-Series have been restored with an experimental electric powertrain and its first test run saw the vehicle clocking 1,000 miles on a single charge.

The electric powertrain draws power from a 130kw battery pack made from salvaged 18650’s and the results took our breath away. What’s best about it is that the test run saw the 528i utilizing recycled batteries and it still performs like a normal car with a decent average speed of 50mph.

This makes the home-made project a much better EV prospect than even the Tesla Model S, which is known to have achieved about 700 miles when driven at 25mph without air-conditioning.

A video of the test got shared on YouTube and we are certain that it has captured the attention of carmakers worldwide as well as battery producers.
