Toyota 86: More Shame Than Glory!

By  |

It has been 5 years since Toyota launched the 86 and the car is still not up-to-par with the expectations of the masses. While Toyota may have brought some improvements to the 86, the vehicle is still suffering from not having enough power.

Toyota may defend the 86 by reminding everyone that the vehicle is an affordable sports car but we can argue that other affordable sports car can do better. Just look at the Mazda MX-5 Miata as an example. The latter has proven its worth with a respectable straight line performance and superb track achievements.

It’s unfortunate that the same can’t be said for the 86. For a pure sports car, the 86 is still not the fastest vehicle in Toyota’s current line-up. If that is not bad enough, the 86 can’t go faster than a minivan – the Chrysler Pacifica hybrid.

The only good boxes which the 86 ticks are fun, affordable and reliable. If that is your fix then there is no further need to condemn the 86. It’s too bad that the majority does not share the same view.
