Toyota 86 Taking The Hit For The Next Supra?

Every passing day brings us closer to the release of the next-gen Toyota Supra and many can’t wait to check out what the car has to offer. The Supra in the good old days is described as a world beater of its time and fans of the car are expecting no less from the next-gen model.

But seeing that Toyota has botched it with the 86’s performance, there is a higher chance for the next Supra to be an underperformer than an overachiever.

On the other hand, the 86 could be an indication of a stellar performance coming with the Supra. We gave it a long thought and we came to realize that the 86 can be too powerful for its price if Toyota is to give in and equip the car with a turbocharger.

As it stands, the 86 has got about 200hp which is pretty decent for a car of its type. A turbocharger can just allow the 86 to hit 300hp and this is too close to the target power output of the next Supra.

It is also worth noting that the Supra is a mid-level sports car from Toyota in the past hence the most which the next-gen model would do is to perform better than the likes of the Ford Focus RS or even the Audi TT.

Targeting an output between 350hp to 450hp will be enough for the Supra to do well in the market and it will also prevent any further hating on the 86 for being underpowered.
