Toyota FJ Cruiser Not Planning For A Second Take At Failure!

By  |

The FJ Cruiser is an off-road-tailored SUV from Toyota that has been discontinued a couple of years ago and this is due to the vehicle’s inability to compete with the Jeep Wrangler on the sales front. But if this has made you think that Toyota has given up on competing, you are wrong.

The last LA Auto Show saw Toyota proposing the development of more off-road-tailored SUVs and among them is the TJ Cruiser. The carmaker never mentioned anything about a new FJ Cruiser but they did say that there will be a compact version of their off-road-ready-fleet.

The details are unclear at the moment but the signs are pointing to a rebadged vehicle instead of a brand new model. The word is that Toyota won’t resort into building their compact off-roader from the ground up due to fear of the vehicle failing to hit its sales mark like the FJ Cruiser.

As for which vehicle Toyota will put their badge on, the reports are claiming it to be the next-gen Suzuki Jimny. The Jimny is a popular compact off-roader in the markets it competes in and its proven record will bless Toyota with the prospect for success here in the US.

But of course, the above is still based on unofficial reports and they should be taken with a grain of salt. Should it be true, we can expect Toyota to offer a statement about it at the LA Auto Show this year
