Toyota RAV4 Latest To Join Diesel Exodus!

By  |

Several major emission controversies surrounding diesel powertrains has led to a sharp decline in new diesel adoption hence explaining why carmakers are unwilling to commit to the heavy oil any further.

Today, Toyota joined the trend through abandoning the diesel powertrains entirely for the RAV4. While not officially announced, an interview with a dealer confirms that the fourth generation RAV4 in Europe will no longer be offered with a diesel unit.

On the other hand, there are still unsold diesel-powered RAV4s on several dealer lots but they are all that is left in the inventory. There won’t be any new model getting produced.

The death of diesel on Toyota’s prime crossover will certainly create a gap in the market and we could be seeing Toyota announcing something big to fill its place. Perhaps, more hybrid trims for the RAV4?
