Volkswagen ID May Force Golf To Cut Volume

The Volkswagen Golf has always been that go-to affordable hatchback as it offers a fine performance with a reasonable price tag. This setup has turned the Golf into a big volume vehicle globally but we can’t say the same for the next-gen model.

It was confirmed earlier today that the next Golf will be debuting alongside the highly anticipated EV from Volkswagen, the I.D. VW’s Jurgen Stackman quoted,

“There is going to be an extremely strong new Golf 8 coming, it will launch just a month ahead of the I.D. We believe that they both stand on their own feet, in their own rights.”

Keeping in mind that both the Golf and the ID will have a compact measurement, the two cars may end up competing against each other for sales. It will divide the market into EV-goers and Golf lovers.

Also, the arrival of the ID will mark the end of the e-Golf. With all these in mind, we may see the next-gen Golf shrinking in numbers as a result of the ID.
