Is Fallout 4 VR Hurting Fallout 5 Development?

It often takes about 2-10 years for a new Fallout video game to get produced and this can be difficult for Fallout fans to cope with. As an example, old Fallout fans were left waiting a decade for Fallout 3 to get released.

The latest title in the series is Fallout 4 was launched back in 2015 and most fans must have completed the game by now. Today, a growing number of fans have admitted online that they can’t get enough of the post-apocalyptic experience which Fallout offers and they can’t wait for Fallout 5 to get announced.

If you are among them, we’re afraid we got some bad news for you. It is that Fallout 5 may force you into a decade-long wait, just like how it was for Fallout 3.

Just by looking at Bethesda’s press releases, you will learn that the game developer is currently occupied with the development of Fallout 4 VR. The virtual reality variant of Fallout 4 is expected to be ready for an official release late next year but its debut won’t mean the start of Fallout 5’s development.

This is because Bethesda has also said that they will move on to develop a new RPG-themed IP which they intend to launch before 2020. Once that game comes out, the developer will go back to some unfinished business like the development of the highly anticipated Elder Scrolls sequel to Skyrim.

Based on this alone, the best realistic time for Fallout 5 to get developed is after 2020 and the development duration would lead to the game getting released in 2025. It will be a long and painful wait for the fans – something which Bethesda can solve with a filler title like New Vegas.
