Google Hits The Brakes On Nexus 6

By  |

The Google Nexus 6 is about 2 years old now and this means that the device is no longer entitled to any further support from Google. The Nexus 6 users are well aware of it and they will be furious if Google denied them of getting the Android Nougat update.

The Android Nougat OS was launched several months ago, at a time where the Nexus 6 is still an active phone. However, Google failed to roll out the OS update for the Nexus 6 in a timely manner and it will be unfair if the update don’t arrive at all.

Google may not have mentioned anything about it but the upcoming Android 7.1 is scheduled to arrive in December 6 next week and it was developed partly on the old Nexus 6. If this is anything to go by, the old phone will get Android 7.1 Nougat.

Even so, it won’t change the fact that the Android 7.1 Nougat update will be the last firmware update for the Nexus 6. Following that, Google will no longer support the phone aside from offering security patches when required.

I dropped my Nexus 6 and the Pixel wasn’t available yet so I am using an old Samsung 4 for now. Given the speed at which Google abandoned the Nexus 6 I’m glad I didn’t buy the Pixel.
