Google Nexus 6: The Final Update?

By  |

Being a Nexus 6 user, it has been a painful end to 2016 as the device I’m using is still pending to receive the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update which it is eligible for.

Sure, the Nexus 6 may be more than two years old now but it was still an active device when Android Nougat was launched by Google. In addition to that, every Android powered phone is entitled to two firmware updates. The Nexus 6 only received one and this means that Google owes every Nexus 6 user the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update.

So every day, I tend to spend a couple of minutes scouring through the internet in hope to get a status update on the fate of the Nexus 6 and today, I found a leak that says that the Android 7.1.1 image and OTA files are getting prepared for a roll out.

Hours later, these files were spotted on Google’s Android developer site. Nothing official has been said by Google regarding the matter but it gave me the strength to start hoping again. If the ROM is truly meant for the Nexus 6, I can expect to see an OTA update prompt happening next week.
