Huawei, ZTE, Asus Join Ranks For Google Daydream VR

It is a sad time to be a fan of the Nexus phones from Google. Despite being managed directly by the father of Android, Google has denied the Nexus devices the ability to operate Daydream VR.

Google has explained that they can’t offer Daydream VR support to the Nexus phones because they are not powerful enough to operate on them fluidly but we don’t buy it at all. The fact that several China-made phones have been granted access to Daydream VR strongly suggests that Google’s decision is made to force Nexus owners into upgrading to the new Pixel phones.

In case you missed the announcement at CES, the ZTE Axon 7, Huawei Mat 9, Huawei Porsche Design Mate 9 and the upcoming ASUS ZenFone AR will all be fully compatible with Daydream VR. Some of those phones are less powerful than the Google Nexus 6P and this is why we don’t believe that performance is the cause of the Nexus phones being denied access to Daydream VR.

If this is truly the case, then we don’t see any point in getting a Nexus phone anymore as the devices from Google are being left at a stale state.
