Mario Kart 8: A Minimal Upgrade For Nintendo Switch?
Mario Kart 8 is one of the few titles that helped boost Nintendo Switch’s popularity in the gaming industry and this is despite of the fact that the game is already available on the older generation console, the Wii U.
Either way, Mario Kart 8 allows us to measure the performance on the Switch. A comparison video which involves the Switch and the Wii U had just surfaced online earlier today and from it, we can see how big the difference in graphics really is between the two consoles.
Obviously, things are better on the Switch as the renderings look crispier and the details are more pronounced than the ones on the Wii U. However, the fact that Mario Kart 8 is a purely cartoonish game makes it hard to see the big improvements on the Switch’s graphics.
Even so, it is important to note that the chief visual difference is the native resolution. The Switch is running the game with 1,152,000 additional pixels. 1080p is much cleaner than 720p on a TV screen. This is something that is hard to appreciate on a YouTube video.
