2018 Honda Civic Type-R: Can This Make Up For Its Looks?

By  |

Many people agree that Honda has made a mess with regard to the design of the all-new Honda Civic Type-R. The basic design of the Civic hatchback divides opinion, but the range-topping Type-R really knocks it out of the park in the ugly department.

Perhaps other aspects of the hot hatch could change minds and win over buyers. Maybe it would flatten its rivals Ford Focus RS, Volkswagen Golf R, and Subaru WRX STI in a quarter mile sprint or maybe its roaring exhaust notes would help convert critics.

Honda has just released a new clip that attempts to ingratiate the Type-R to the audience via flattering camera play and glitzy editing that ends with the vehicle showing off its throaty purr.

The clip takes a full minute, but if you’re only interested in the Type-R’s sound you would have to skip to the last 10 seconds or so. Its 2.0L turbo-four, worth 306hp and handled by a six-speed manual gearbox, should be promising enough to convince fans to overlook its design and prepare about $35,000 from their savings.
