2019 Chevrolet Silverado: Can Displacement Ease Downsizing Pressure?

By  |

The call for carmakers to downsize on their engines have gotten louder in recent years and it looks like the Chevrolet Silverado is now giving into it.

Chevrolet’s parent company, GM, confirmed on this last week when they revealed that the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado will feature a brand-new mill and it will be a 4-cylinder unit.

The obvious says that this is a move to appease the environmentalist as we don’t see why GM should approve the use of a 4-cylinder on a full-sized pickup truck. But before you worry on the performance of the mill, you should know that the engine has a capacity 2.7L.

This is really huge for a mass-market 4-cylinder and the big volume capacity will certainly ease performance strains of a 4-banger on a large vehicle.

We also don’t see how the setup will improve much on the fuel economy end of things hence suggesting that the decision for the mill to be the new standard for the Silverado is made to ease the downsize pressures.
