2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 EcoBeast Screams Turbo!

Recent months saw new rumors on the next-gen Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 claiming that the ultimate pony car is going to adopt a supercharged powertrain.

The use of a supercharger can allow the V8 on the GT500 to develop more than 700hp thus allowing the car to compete closely with the Dodge Challenger Demon. As exciting as this may be, we don’t think a supercharger is going to be the way for the next GT500.

For starters, Ford has trademarked the name EcoBeast several years ago and the nomenclature is based on the EcoBoost moniker. The latter is Ford’s turbocharged technology that has done wonders since its debut hence we can fully expect the EcoBeast mill to feature turbochargers.

Our best guess would be a twin-turbo V8 that targets at least 700hp. Such an output can ensure great performance with the Mustang Shelby GT500. The only way to confirm on this is to wait until Ford unveils the next GT500. That is expected to happen at the next LA Auto Show this November.
