2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500: NA vs Turbos vs Superchargers, What Would It Be?

By  |

The next-gen Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has been closely linked to making a debut at the next LA Auto Show and many can’t wait to check out on the powertrain which the car will rely on.

Ford has already confirmed that the GT500 will rely on a V8 mill and the rumors took it further by claiming on the addition of superchargers. These rumors surfaced online a month ago and they believe that the GT500 will have a supercharged V8 with almost 700hp to offer.

Well, we would be convinced if the rumors are to mention turbochargers as we simply don’t see why the next Mustang Shelby GT500 should adopt a supercharger. Ford has invested heavily on turbocharged technology and they have also patented the name EcoBeast. This is a clear sign of an overpowered turbocharged unit and it could involve a V8 mill.

Until the Mustang Shelby GT500 breaks its covers, there is no telling on what sort of powertrain will feature on the car. It will definitely be a V8 mill resting under the hood of the GT500 but will it be a pure unit, a turbocharged motor or a supercharged engine? Which do you prefer most?

The patent for EcoBeast may just also be so other people won’t steal the name and use it to tarnish the EcoBoost name. The best example for where this normally happens is in the gaming industry, for example EA (Electronic Arts) patented the name “Need For Speed: Rivals” so presumably no one can use it to make a game that makes EA come under fire when they had nothing to do with the creation of the game.
