2019 Ford Ranger Raptor: Diesel Ignorance Is Risky

By  |

Anyone that has followed the automotive industry must have known about the dieselgate scandal and the incident involving Volkswagen has led diesel powertrains into a sharp freefall.

For Ford, however, they have decided to ignore the decline of diesels by leaning towards equipping the next-gen Ranger Raptor with a performance diesel powertrain.

While it may not be official yet, Ford did reveal that the upcoming Ranger Raptor will mirror the performance of the global model and this makes it likely for the vehicle to feature a diesel setup.

Such a decision can be good if it means handing the Ranger Raptor a wider market reach in a segment that lacks on the diesel front. On the other hand, if consumers are to stay away from diesels, it may leave the Ranger Raptor in a state of disaster.

The worst possible scenario is if the diesel coming to the Ranger Raptor ends up getting probed for poor emissions and this can put Ford in hot water. Let’s hope Ford knows what they are doing.

It’s a no brainer Ford. Build the 4 cyl and the V/6. Then offer a diesel option. If they sell as well as you think they will, your golden….If not….The option was not very popular and you don’t have 250,000 of them sitting on a lot somewhere.

Good idea. I would believe that Ford is looking at the Canyon and it’s sales numbers or popularity. I would consider the diesel option but want to see the new Ranger and how much more the diesel option is.
