The 2020 Toyota Tacoma was given the IIHS Top Safety Pick rating making it only the third pickup truck in the market to get the rating from IIHS and it is all thanks to them upgrading the headlights of the Tacoma.
The 2019 Toyota Tacoma was only given a Marginal rating for the headlights at that time but the 2020 model was fitted with the LED headlights for the TRD Pro and TRD Limited trim which earns it a Good rating. Of course, since the SR and SR5 trim won’t get these lights, their headlights were only given a Marginal rating.
What cost it the Top Safety Pick + rating was the passenger-side small-overlap crash result which was only given an Acceptable rating this time. The other trucks that did get the same safety rating from IIHS including the Honda Ridgeline while the Ram 1500 was given the coveted Top Safety Pick + rating.
