GM Wants To Exclude Some Takata Fitted Models From Recall

A lot of automakers are still leading with the aftermath of the Takata airbag scandal with many of them still having to recall and replace the airbags on their model but GM is hoping that some of their models won’t have to be recalled.

The automaker has filed a petition with NHTSA insisting that some of their vehicles should be excluded from the list. This is the fourth time the automaker has argued with NHTSA. According to GM, some of the trucks and SUVs are fitted with a different kind of inflater design and vehicle integration so it should not be affected by the same recall.

Models that they are looking to take out from the list include the 2010 – 2014 Cadillac Escalade EXT, Cadillac Escalade ESV, Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon XL, GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Avalanche, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Sierra 2500/3500, Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500, GMC Sierra 1500, and Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

We will have to wait and see how NHTSA will respond to this fourth request by GM.
