Next Ford Mustang Shelby GT500: V6 Not In The Plans!

By  |

The past 5 years have witnessed many carmakers opting to downsize and this explains why there are fewer V8s, V10s and V12s when compared to a decade ago.

Ford is one of those that have been aggressive in its downsizing program as the EcoBoost technology which they have developed has allowed them to offer more 4-cylinders with a V6-like performance.

Knowing this, it is easy to understand why many are worried for the next-gen Shelby Mustang GT500 because the icon in the Mustang family may also be forced away from a traditional V8 in favour of a something smaller. The rumours are rife in claiming that the GT500 will adopt a twin-turbo V6 that is sourced from the Raptor.

Well, being a Mustang fan, we are saddened by the loss of the V8 on the Mustang but we can now be at ease because Ford is not giving up on V8s just yet.

The Blue Oval company made it clear that the V8s are what define the Mustang since the beginning of time and they won’t change this bit at all. Moving away from V8s will give the Mustang zero meaning hence the next-gen Shelby GT500 will keep on running on V8s.
