FIFA 19 & NBA 2K19: A Dead End To Sports Gaming Franchise?

Football and basketball are two of the most popular sports in the world and they have never failed to make a fortune in the video game industry. But today, this has turned into a huge problem for sports purists as titles like FIFA 19 and NBA 2K19 will cement the gloomy state of sports in video games.

The NBA 2K Series and the FIFA Series are so huge that they have technically monopolized their respective markets. So when 2K confirmed that fans will need to accept microtransactions in NBA 2K19, there’s nothing basketball lovers can do about it. The same can be said with EA Games controlling the football market and promising an uninteresting package in FIFA 19.

The worst part of it all is that there are no developers that are capable of rivalling the two games. In FIFA’s case, they have already taken the limelight away from Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer by acquiring more licenses. As for NBA 2K19, microtransactions are said to be so bad that basketball fans are looking at NBA Live from EA to save them. The latter is basically another profit-leeching company.

It goes to say that the sports scene has hit a dead-end with no chance of saving. The only miracle that can happen is if the gamers take a year off from buying the two games to spark a change.
